Bulldog Matter Smart Water Valve (The Future-Proof Choice)

The EcoNet Controls Bulldog EVC400-MW is a next-generation smart water shutoff designed for the modern smart home. Built on the Matter over Wi-Fi protocol, it integrates natively with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings without requiring a proprietary bridge or third-party cloud account.

This is a Retrofit (Clamp-On) device. It installs over your existing lever-handle ball valve in minutes, providing powerful automatic leak protection without the need to cut pipes or hire a plumber.

Hybrid Protection: Smart + Offline Backup

Uniquely, the Bulldog EVC400 combines modern Matter connectivity with a robust Offline Backup System. It retains a dedicated 433MHz radio receiver to pair directly with EcoNet ELS100 Leak Sensors (sold in kits or separately).

🛡️ Works Without Internet
If an ELS100 sensor detects water, it sends a direct signal to the Bulldog to close the valve instantly. This safety loop works even if your Wi-Fi is down or your smart home hub is offline during a storm.

Installation & Compatibility

Fits Standard Ball Valves: Clamps securely onto 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1.25", and 1.5" pipes. Requires a Quarter-Turn Ball Valve (lever handle).
Note: Not compatible with Gate Valves (round wheel handles).

Matter Requirements: To use the smart features (App control/Notifications), you need a Matter Controller (also known as a Border Router) in your home.

  • Apple Users: Apple HomePod (2nd Gen+), HomePod Mini, or Apple TV 4K.
  • Google Users: Nest Hub (2nd Gen), Nest Hub Max, or Nest Wifi Pro.
  • Alexa Users: Echo (4th Gen) or Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen).
  • SmartThings Users: SmartThings Station or Hub v3.

Choose Your Configuration

  • Base Unit (EVC400-MW): Includes the Valve Robot, Mounting Kit, and Power Adapter. Ideal if you only want app-based shutoff or plan to use your existing smart home sensors.
  • Starter Kit (EVC400-MW-SK3): Includes the Base Unit + 3 Wireless Leak Sensors (ELS100). Recommended for complete offline protection.

FAQ

Do I need a hub?
You do not need a proprietary EcoNet hub. However, Matter devices require a "Matter Controller" (like an Apple HomePod or Google Nest Hub) to connect to your network. If you already have a modern smart home, you likely already own one.

Can I use this with Home Assistant?
Yes. This is a fully certified Matter device and works locally with Home Assistant via the Matter integration.

Does it work if the power goes out?
The device is AC-powered. For operation during power outages, we recommend adding the EcoNet Battery Backup (BB3K). You can also pull the manual clutch pin to turn the valve by hand.
