Overview
The Comtrend PG-9182PT is a G.hn Wave 2 powerline adapter with a built-in pass-through electrical outlet. It uses your existing electrical wiring to carry network traffic at up to 2000Mbps (PHY), then provides a Gigabit Ethernet port wherever you plug it in. That makes it ideal for Canadian homes and small offices that need a fast, reliable wired connection in basements, lofts, garages or bonus rooms where Wi-Fi struggles.
Each adapter includes a pass-through outlet so you don’t lose a plug. A minimum of two G.hn adapters is required to create a working link – pair this PG-9182PT with another PG-9182PT or a compatible Comtrend G.hn powerline adapter near your router.
Key Features & Benefits
- G.hn Wave 2 powerline up to 2000Mbps PHY – turns the electrical wiring in your home into a high-speed backbone. Actual throughput depends on wiring quality, distance and electrical noise.
- 1 x Gigabit Ethernet port – delivers a stable, low-latency connection for smart TVs, gaming consoles, streaming boxes, desktops, or network switches.
- Built-in pass-through AC outlet – plug the adapter into the wall, then plug a lamp, power bar or other device into the front outlet so you don’t sacrifice a socket.
- Quick Noise Adaptation (QNA) – detects electrical noise up to 5x faster than previous generation technology to help reduce latency and jitter for video and gaming traffic.
- HomeGrid-certified G.hn Wave 2 – standards-based powerline for better performance than older HomePlug AV adapters.
- Secure at the push of a button – AES 128-bit encryption between adapters, with one-button security/pairing.
- Expandable network – add more compatible Comtrend G.hn powerline adapters (up to 16 nodes) to extend wired connectivity to additional rooms.
Canadian Use Cases
- Living room or basement TV – give your smart TV or streaming box a wired connection using only existing outlets.
- Gaming setups – move your console or gaming PC away from the router without taking a hit on latency like you might with repeaters.
- Home offices – stabilize VPN and video calls in an upstairs or downstairs office where Wi-Fi is inconsistent.
- Suites & multi-level homes – extend internet into rental suites, lofts or finished attics using electrical wiring instead of pulling Ethernet.
- Small businesses – connect POS terminals, back-office PCs or network printers in rooms with power but no network drop.
How It Works
- Adapter 1 plugs into a wall outlet near your modem/router and connects by Ethernet.
- Adapter 2 (this PG-9182PT) plugs into a wall outlet where you need a wired connection and connects to your device via its Gigabit Ethernet port.
- The adapters communicate over the electrical wiring to form a secure G.hn Wave 2 powerline link.

Common Questions
-
Do I need another adapter for this to work?
Yes. You need at least two G.hn powerline adapters to create a link. This PG-9182PT must be paired with another PG-9182PT or compatible G.hn adapter near your router. -
What’s the benefit of the pass-through outlet?
The pass-through outlet lets you plug another device (like a power bar, lamp, or TV) into the adapter itself, so you don’t “lose” the wall outlet it occupies. -
Is this better than using a Wi-Fi extender?
Wi-Fi extenders repeat wireless signals, which can add latency and reduce throughput. A G.hn powerline adapter uses a wired path over electrical wiring, which is often more stable for streaming and gaming between floors or through dense walls. -
Will it work in older Canadian homes?
In many cases, yes. G.hn Wave 2 is designed for noisy or mixed-quality wiring, but actual speeds depend on wiring condition, distance between outlets, and what’s plugged into the same circuits.
