Overview
The Comtrend PG-9182PoE is a G.hn Wave 2 powerline adapter with integrated Power over Ethernet (PoE). It sends data over your existing electrical wiring and provides both network and power through two PoE-capable Ethernet ports. That makes it ideal in Canadian homes, shops, and small businesses where pulling new cabling to cameras or access points is expensive or impractical.
Plug one G.hn powerline adapter by your router (for example a PG-9182PT) and plug the PG-9182PoE wherever you need to power PoE devices. Note: a minimum of two G.hn powerline adapters is required to create a working connection.
Key Features & Benefits
- G.hn Wave 2 powerline up to 2000Mbps PHY – uses your electrical wiring as a high-speed backbone for IP cameras, access points, and VoIP phones. Actual throughput depends on wiring quality and distance.
- Two PoE-capable Gigabit Ethernet ports – connect and power up to two PoE devices from a single adapter.
- Flexible 30W PoE power budget – supports either 802.3af x2 or 802.3at x1, giving you options for different PoE loads on the same adapter.
- Reliable powerline for cameras and APs – place PoE cameras, outdoor-rated APs, or VoIP phones where you actually need them, without separate PoE injectors or new drops.
- Secure, encrypted link – AES 128-bit encryption between G.hn adapters helps protect traffic on shared wiring.
- Expandable network – build out to multiple locations by adding additional compatible G.hn powerline adapters (up to 16 per network).
- Plug-and-play setup – plug into a wall outlet, press the Security/Pair button to join your G.hn network, then connect your PoE devices.
Canadian Use Cases
- PoE security cameras around the home or shop – mount IP cameras where you have power but no network drop, such as garages, side yards, or small warehouses.
- Access points for better Wi-Fi coverage – power a ceiling or wall-mount access point at the far end of a home, store, or office using existing electrical wiring.
- VoIP phones in offices or reception areas – place PoE phones where convenient without running new cabling from the network closet.
- Small business / retail installs – feed PoE cameras and APs in back rooms, stock areas, or detached buildings using powerline instead of trenching conduit.
- Outbuildings on acreages – where wiring is available but pulling network cable would be costly, G.hn powerline with PoE can be a practical option.

Common Questions
-
Do I need another adapter for this to work?
Yes. G.hn powerline always requires at least two adapters to create a link. Use a PG-9182PT or other compatible Comtrend G.hn adapter near the router, and this PG-9182PoE at the location where you need PoE. -
How many PoE devices can I power?
The PG-9182PoE provides a 30W PoE budget. It can power either two 802.3af devices or one higher-draw 802.3at device, as long as the combined load stays within 30W. -
Is this better than using separate PoE injectors?
In many scenarios, yes. Instead of multiple injectors and long Ethernet runs, you use existing electrical wiring to carry both data and power closer to where the devices are installed, which can reduce clutter and installation time. -
Can I use this outdoors?
The adapter itself is designed for indoor use. You can power outdoor-rated PoE devices, but the PG-9182PoE should be plugged into an indoor outlet or properly protected location.
