Overview
The Comtrend PG-9182AC-KIT is a two-unit powerline WiFi kit that fixes Wi-Fi dead zones in Canadian homes and small offices. It uses G.hn Wave 2 powerline technology to send fast, stable internet over your existing electrical wiring, so you can bring reliable Wi-Fi and Ethernet to basements, garages, rental suites, and additions without running new cable.
One adapter sits by your modem/router, the second plugs in where you need coverage and creates a new AC1200 dual-band WiFi access point plus a wired Ethernet port for smart TVs, consoles, or PCs.
Key Features & Benefits
- G.hn Wave 2 powerline up to 2000Mbps PHY – delivers high-speed backhaul over existing electrical wiring for streaming, gaming, and work-from-home. (Requires at least two G.hn adapters.)
- AC1200 dual-band WiFi (2.4GHz & 5GHz) – creates a strong wireless access point exactly where you have weak Wi-Fi today.
- Quick Noise Adaptation (QNA) – detects electrical noise up to 5x faster to reduce lag and jitter for video calls and online gaming.
- Low-latency wired Ethernet – a Gigabit Ethernet port on the PG-9182AC lets you hardwire a console, TV, or workstation.
- Expandable up to 16 adapters – build out whole-home coverage using additional compatible G.hn powerline units.
- AES 128-bit encryption – secures traffic between adapters for safe use in multi-tenant or multi-suite buildings.
- Plug-and-play setup – plug both adapters into standard outlets, pair with the security button, then connect your devices.
Canadian Use Cases
- Basements & bonus rooms – give a finished basement, loft, or attic its own strong Wi-Fi and wired connection.
- Detached or over-garage offices – extend internet where the existing Wi-Fi router cannot reach reliably.
- Older homes with thick walls – bypass plaster, concrete, or brick that kills Wi-Fi by using the electrical wiring instead.
- Rental suites & in-law spaces – add a separate access point without running new Ethernet through finished walls.
- Streaming & gaming setups – give consoles and smart TVs a more stable backhaul than standalone Wi-Fi extenders.

Common Questions
-
Do I need existing Wi-Fi for this kit to work?
Yes. One adapter connects by Ethernet to your existing modem/router. The second adapter creates Wi-Fi and Ethernet where you need coverage, using the electrical wiring as the backhaul. -
Is this better than a regular Wi-Fi extender?
Traditional Wi-Fi extenders repeat a weak wireless signal. This kit uses powerline backhaul, which is often more stable and lower-latency for streaming and gaming, especially in homes with thick walls or multiple floors. -
Will it work in Canadian homes with older wiring?
In most cases, yes. G.hn Wave 2 is designed to handle electrical noise and variable wiring quality. Actual speeds depend on distance, wiring quality, and what’s plugged into the same circuits. -
Can I add more rooms later?
Yes. You can expand up to 16 G.hn powerline adapters per network to cover more rooms or floors as needed.
