Overview
The Comtrend PG-9182AC is a G.hn Wave 2 powerline adapter with built-in AC1200 WiFi. It sends network traffic over your existing electrical wiring, then creates a strong wireless access point and wired Ethernet port where you plug it in. That makes it ideal for Canadian homes and small businesses that can’t easily pull new Ethernet to basements, garages, rental suites, or far bedrooms.
Use the PG-9182AC as a single add-on to expand an existing G.hn powerline network, or pair it with another compatible G.hn adapter to build a new link. Note: a minimum of two G.hn powerline adapters is required for a working connection.
Key Features & Benefits
- G.hn Wave 2 powerline up to 2000Mbps PHY – uses your electrical wiring for high-speed backhaul, ideal for streaming and work-from-home traffic. Actual throughput depends on wiring and distance.
- Built-in AC1200 dual-band WiFi (2.4GHz & 5GHz) – creates a strong wireless access point exactly where you have dead zones today.
- Quick Noise Adaptation (QNA) – detects electrical noise faster to help reduce latency and jitter for video calls and gaming.
- Gigabit Ethernet port – hardwire a smart TV, console, or PC for lower-latency connections than WiFi alone.
- Secure, encrypted link – AES 128-bit encryption between adapters for use in multi-tenant buildings.
- Expandable network – connect up to 16 compatible G.hn powerline adapters in a single network.
- Plug-and-play setup – plug into a wall outlet, pair with the Security button, then configure WiFi name and password using the web UI or WPS.
Canadian Use Cases
- Finished basements & bonus rooms – add WiFi and Ethernet where your main router can’t reach reliably.
- Attached or over-garage offices – keep video calls and cloud apps stable without pulling new cable.
- Older homes with thick walls – bypass plaster, brick, or concrete that kills WiFi by using existing electrical wiring.
- Rental suites & in-law spaces – extend internet into a secondary suite with a secure, encrypted link.
- Gaming & streaming setups – hardwire a console or media centre in another room via powerline.

Common Questions
-
Do I need a second adapter for this to work?
Yes. A minimum of two G.hn powerline adapters is required to create a link. You can pair this PG-9182AC with another PG-9182AC, a PG-9182PT, or other compatible G.hn powerline models. -
Is this better than a standard WiFi extender?
Traditional WiFi extenders repeat a wireless signal, which can add latency and cut speeds. The PG-9182AC uses powerline backhaul for more stable performance, especially across floors or through dense construction. -
Will it work in older Canadian homes?
In many cases, yes. G.hn Wave 2 is designed for noisy and mixed-quality wiring, but real-world speeds depend on distance, wiring quality, and what’s plugged into the same circuits. -
Can I change the WiFi network name and password?
Yes. You can use the built-in web interface to customize SSID, password, and wireless settings, or use WPS with compatible devices.
